Scholarships for new students

Navitas Family Bursaries

Value

The bursary is equivalent to 10% of the tuition fee for the 1st program of study at a Navitas Institution. The bursary does not apply to additional units or repeat units that may also be undertaken and excludes mixed English options.

Eligibility

  • Family Bursary applies where two or more students from the same family study at a Navitas institution.
  • The first family member can be studying at a Navitas institution at the same time as the other family members or may have studied at any Navitas institution previously.
  • The family bursary is granted to the second and subsequent family members who study at a Navitas institution.
  • Not have previously received a Navitas scholarship or bursary, or had a scholarship or bursary from Navitas withdrawn.

Definitions

For the purpose of this bursary, a family member is defined as a husband, wife, brother, sister, mother, father, son, daughter or stepchild.

Conditions

  • Successful recipients will not receive any money from the Navitas member institution. The value of the bursary will be recorded on the student’s account each semester of study.
  • The recipient will receive a family bursary based on tuition net of other scholarship and bursaries.
  • The bursary does not apply to additional units or repeat units that may also be undertaken.
  • Navitas bursary is not applicable to English language program or any component of any English language program offered by Navitas member institutions.

Navitas member institutions

The Navitas bursary applies to students studying at Fraser International College (FIC), ULethbridge International College Calgary (UICC), International College of Manitoba (ICM), Toronto Metropolitan University International College (TMUIC), Wilfrid Laurier International College (WLIC), and Queens College Global Student Success Program (QC) in North America.

In addition to the North American Navitas member institutions, Navitas member institutions are located in colleges and campuses across the world.

Application instructions

A completed application must be submitted to the Navitas institution together with supporting documents, such as birth certificate, or family card. Application form can be obtained from the Navitas institution where the student has enrolled.

Future Leaders Scholarship

Value

The scholarship award is equivalent to $4,000 CAD.

Eligibility

  • New students who apply to start any intake in 2025 can be eligible to receive the scholarship.
  • Ability to demonstrate your academic achievements, leadership qualities, and the importance of this scholarship in starting your journey at FIC in an interview.
  • Ability to highlight your leadership role in your previous community/school and explain how you plan to contribute positively to the FIC community in an interview.

Conditions

  • The scholarship cannot be combined with any other offers.
  • The tuition deposit should be paid in full by the expiry date to qualify for the scholarship.
  • The scholarship can only be applicable as a tuition credit at FIC.
  • The scholarship has no cash value.
  • The scholarship is for one of Foundation (UTP Stage I) OR International Year One (UTP Stage II) OR Associate of Arts Degree.
  • Must be enrolled by September 2025 at FIC.
  • Must be a full-time, continuing student to qualify.
  • Scholarship amounts will be split into two equal amounts and will be applied after week 4 of the 2nd semester of studies and after week 4 of the 3rd semester of studies.

Selection Criteria

  • Selection will be based on the outcome of the interview.
  • Scholarship interview with an FIC staff.

Notification of results

Selected students will receive an email confirmation as well as the scholarship certificate.

Application instructions

Students must fill out the application form. Interested students will be contacted to schedule the scholarship interview. 

Pathway to Success Award

Value

The scholarship award is equivalent to $3,500 CAD.

Eligibility

  • New students who apply to start any intake in 2025 can be eligible to receive the scholarship.
  • Ability to explain how FIC and/or SFU will contribute to your long-term success and career goals on the pathway to your success in an interview.
  • Ability to explain how you plan to contribute positively to the FIC community in an interview.

Conditions

  • The scholarship cannot be combined with any other offers.
  • The tuition deposit should be paid in full by the expiry date to qualify for the scholarship.
  •  The scholarship can only be applicable as a tuition credit at FIC.
  •  The scholarship has no cash value.
  • The scholarship is for one of Foundation (UTP Stage I) OR International Year One (UTP Stage II) OR Associate of Arts Degree.
  • Must be enrolled by September 2025 at FIC.
  • Must be a full-time, continuing student to qualify.
  •  Scholarship amounts will be split into two equal amounts and will be applied after week four of the 2nd semester of studies and after week four of the 3rd semester of studies.

Selection Criteria

  • Selection will be based on the outcome of the interview.

FIC Women in STEM Scholarship

Value

The scholarship award is equivalent to $2,500 CAD.

Eligibility

  • New student who identifies as female with a valid FIC letter of offer in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math programs for 2025.
  • Ability to articulate your passion for the STEM field, including the inspiration behind your interest and commitment to pursuing a STEM-focused education in an interview.
  • Ability to explain how you plan to add value to the Women in STEM and the broader FIC community through your participation and engagement in an interview.
  • Ability to share a personal story related to your STEM journey, showcasing your resilience, innovation, or unique perspective in the field in an interview.

Conditions

  • The scholarship applies to academic studies completed for an undergraduate program with FIC. Students are liable to pay for the remainder of their semester course fees.
  • Successful recipients will not receive any money from Navitas member institution. The value of the scholarship will be recorded on the student’s tuition account during their semester of study for an undergraduate program with FIC.
  • Scholarships are not transferable to other students or Navitas member institutes in any circumstances.
  • Navitas member institutions reserves the right not to award all or some of the scholarships in a given year.
  • Scholarships cannot be backdated

FIC Sustainability Scholarship

Value

The scholarship award is equivalent to $2,500 CAD.

Eligibility

  • New student with a valid FIC letter of offer in 2025 for the Environment program.
    Ability to demonstrate your passion for environmental sustainability, including your interest in studying the field in an
  • interview.
  • Ability to share a personal story that highlights your commitment, innovation, or contributions to environmental sustainability in an interview.

Conditions

  • The scholarship applies to academic studies completed for an undergraduate program with FIC. Students are liable to pay for the remainder of their semester course fees.
  • Successful recipients will not receive any money from Navitas member institution. The value of the scholarship will be recorded on the student’s tuition account during their semester of study for an undergraduate program with FIC.
  • Scholarships are not transferable to other students or Navitas member institutes in any circumstances.
  • Navitas member institutions reserves the right not to award all or some of the scholarships in a given year.
  • Scholarships cannot be backdated

Empowerment Scholarship

Value

The scholarship award is equivalent to $3,000 CAD.

Eligibility

  • New students who apply to start any intake in 2025 can be eligible to receive the scholarship.
  • Ability to demonstrate how mentorship and support have shaped your journey and how you will use those experiences to empower and uplift others at FIC in an interview.
  • Ability to articulate your vision for building connections and fostering a supportive environment within FIC and beyond, contributing to the greater community in Canada in an interview.

Conditions

  • The scholarship cannot be combined with any other offers.
    The tuition deposit should be paid in full by the expiry date to qualify for the scholarship.
  • The scholarship can only be applicable as a tuition credit at FIC.
  • The scholarship has no cash value.
    The scholarship is for one of Foundation (UTP Stage I) OR International Year One (UTP Stage II) OR Associate of Arts Degree.

Scholarship for Change Makers

Value

The scholarship award is equivalent to $2,500 CAD.

Eligibility

  • New students who apply to start any intake in 2025 can be eligible to receive the scholarship.
  • Ability to speak to a proven track record of initiating or leading at least one positive change in your previous community, educational institute, or other organizations, whether through an invention, new initiative, or innovation that you conceived and implemented.
  • Ability to explain a passion for solving problems, implementing creative solutions, or fostering inclusivity and progress in a community or educational setting in an interview.

Conditions

  • The scholarship cannot be combined with any other offers.
    The tuition deposit should be paid in full by the expiry date to qualify for the scholarship.
  • The scholarship can only be applicable as a tuition credit at FIC.
  • The scholarship has no cash value.
    The scholarship is for one of Foundation (UTP Stage I) OR International Year One (UTP Stage II) OR Associate of Arts Degree.
    Must be enrolled by September 2025 at FIC.
  • Must be a full-time, continuing student to qualify.

Quest for Learning Award

Value

The scholarship award is equivalent to $2,000 CAD.

Eligibility

  • New students who apply to start any intake in 2025 can be eligible to receive the scholarship.
  • Ability to articulate your academic curiosity or thirst for knowledge, and how you plan to actively contribute to the FIC academic community in an interview.
  • Ability to demonstrate how an FIC education will nurture your academic drive, and help you achieve your future aspirations in an interview.

Conditions

  • The scholarship cannot be combined with any other offers.
  • The tuition deposit should be paid in full by the expiry date to qualify for the scholarship.
  • The scholarship can only be applicable as a tuition credit at FIC.
  • The scholarship has no cash value.
  • The scholarship is for one of Foundation (UTP Stage I) OR International Year One (UTP Stage II) OR Associate of Arts Degree.
  • Must be enrolled by September 2025 at FIC.
  • Must be a full-time, continuing student to qualify.

Current FIC students are not required to apply for these scholarships, as they will be awarded based on academic performance and staff/instructor nominations.

Academic Distinction Scholarship

FIC is committed to helping you achieve your academic goals by offering scholarships to outstanding students. Each semester, FIC awards five students with Academic Distinction Scholarships.

Value

The Scholarship award is equivalent to $1,000.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be currently studying full-time;
  • Have been studying full-time (i.e.: minimum 12 credit hours) and have achieved competencies in all courses across their current program (for which the scholarship is applied for) in semester immediately prior to the semester when the scholarship is being awarded;
  • Not have any outstanding fees on their student account;
  • Not have previously received an Academic Distinction or Academic Merit scholarship nor had a scholarship or bursary from Navitas withdrawn.
  • Not be receiving another Navitas scholarship in the same semester of consideration for this award. If the student is short-listed for multiple scholarships, the student will be awarded the one of greatest value.

Conditions

  • The scholarship applies to academic studies completed for an undergraduate/postgraduate program with FIC. Students are liable to pay for the remainder of their semester course fees.
  • Successful recipients will not receive any money from Navitas member institution. The value of the scholarship will be recorded on the student’s tuition account during their semester of study for an undergraduate/postgraduate program with FIC.
  • Scholarships are not transferable to other students or Navitas member institutes in any circumstances.
  • Navitas member institutions reserves the right not to award all or some of the scholarships in a given year.
  • Scholarships cannot be backdated.

Selection Criteria

Selection will be based on:

  • Academic results based on the Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) on full-time studies from their previous semester of study. Should multiple students have identical academic results, the scholarship selection committee will refer back to marks awarded within each subjects/course to ascertain the scholarship recipient.
  • Additional factors such as educational disadvantage, member of specific equity group and/or significantly adverse personal circumstances may be taken into account where the scholarship selection committee must differentiate between equally qualified applicants.
  • Outcome of scheduled interview (if required)

Notification of results

The scholarship selection committee will announce the recipients of the Navitas Academic Distinction Scholarship upon the completion of each semester and following the course registration period for the subsequent term. The recipients will be notified by email and the successful students posted on the college/campus website.

Application instructions

Students are not required to apply for the scholarship as it is awarded based on academic performance in undergraduate/postgraduate level programs.

Exceptional Academic Performance Scholarship

FIC is committed to helping you achieve your academic goals by offering scholarships to outstanding students. Each semester, FIC awards twelve students at the top of each pathway program with Exceptional Academic Performance Scholarships.

Value

The Scholarship award is equivalent to $750.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be currently studying full-time;
  • Have been studying full-time (i.e.: minimum 12 credit hours) and have achieved competencies in all courses across their current program (for which the scholarship is applied for) in semester immediately prior to the semester when the scholarship is being awarded;
  • Not have any outstanding fees on their student account;
  • Not have previously received an Academic Distinction or Academic Merit scholarship nor had a scholarship or bursary from Navitas withdrawn.
  • Not be receiving another Navitas scholarship in the same semester of consideration for this award. If the student is short-listed for multiple scholarships, the student will be awarded the one of greatest value.

Conditions

  • The scholarship applies to academic studies completed for an undergraduate/postgraduate program with FIC. Students are liable to pay for the remainder of their semester course fees.
  • The recipient will receive a family bursary based on tuition net of other scholarship and bursaries.
  • Successful recipients will not receive any money from Navitas member institution. The value of the scholarship will be recorded on the student’s tuition account during their semester of study for an undergraduate/postgraduate program with FIC.
  • Scholarships are not transferable to other students or Navitas member institutes in any circumstances.
  • Navitas member institutions reserves the right not to award all or some of the scholarships in a given year.
  • Scholarships cannot be backdated.

Selection Criteria

Selection will be based on:

  • Students with the highest academic results in each pathway program in a given semester.
  • Academic results will be based on the Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) on full-time studies from their previous semester of study. Should multiple students have identical academic results, the scholarship selection committee will refer back to marks awarded within each subjects/course to ascertain the scholarship recipient.
  • Student awarded the Academic Distinction Scholarship in the same term will be disqualified from contention for the Exceptional Academic Performance Scholarship
  • Additional factors such as educational disadvantage, member of specific equity group and/or significantly adverse personal circumstances may be taken into account where the scholarship selection committee must differentiate between equally qualified applicants.
  • Outcome of scheduled interview (if required)

Notification of results

The scholarship selection committee will announce the recipients of the Exceptional Academic Performance Scholarship upon the completion of each semester and following the course registration period for the subsequent term. The recipients will be notified by email and the successful students posted on the college/campus website.

Application instructions

Students are not required to apply for the scholarship as it is awarded based on academic performance in undergraduate/postgraduate level programs.

Community Engagement Scholarship

FIC is committed to helping you achieve your academic goals by offering scholarships to outstanding students. Each semester, FIC awards ten students with Community Engagement Scholarships.

Value

The Scholarship award is equivalent to $500.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be currently studying full-time;
  • Have been studying full-time (i.e.: minimum 9 credit hours) and have achieved competencies in all courses across their current program (for which the scholarship is applied for) in semester immediately prior to the semester when the scholarship is being awarded;
  • Have participated in the improvement and promotion of a positive student experience at FIC in the semester immediately prior to the semester when the scholarship is being awarded;
  • Not have any outstanding fees on their student account;
  • Not have previously received an Academic Distinction or Academic Merit scholarship nor had a scholarship or bursary from Navitas withdrawn.
  • Not be receiving another Navitas scholarship in the same semester of consideration for this award. If the student is short-listed for multiple scholarships, the student will be awarded the one of greatest value.

Conditions

  • The scholarship applies to academic studies completed for an undergraduate/postgraduate program with FIC. Students are liable to pay for the remainder of their semester course fees.
  • Successful recipients will not receive any money from Navitas member institution. The value of the scholarship will be recorded on the student’s tuition account during their semester of study for an undergraduate/postgraduate program with FIC.

  • Participated in the improvement and promotion of a positive student experience at FIC in their previous semester of study.
  • Exemplifying the Navitas core values during this participation, which include:
    • Having conviction to our purpose and potential
    • Demonstrating drive by achieving and advancing together.
    • Being adventurous in mind and spirit.
    • Demonstrating rigour in enhancing our professional reputation and credibility.
    • Being genuine in the way we behave and deliver.
    • Showing respect by celebrating, valuing and caring for people and the environment.
  • Additional factors such as educational disadvantage, member of specific equity group and/or significantly adverse personal circumstances may be taken into account where the scholarship selection committee must differentiate between equally qualified applicants.
  • Outcome of scheduled interview (if required)

Notification of results

The scholarship selection committee will announce the recipients of the Community Engagement Scholarship upon the completion of each semester and following the course registration period for the subsequent term. The recipients will be notified by email and the successful students posted on the college/campus website.

Application instructions

Students are not required to apply for the scholarship as it is awarded based on student experience participation at FIC. Students must be nominated for this award by FIC staff members or Student Leader Managers.

Resiliency Award Scholarship

FIC recognizes and celebrates students overcoming adversity in the pursuit of completing their academic program. Each semester, FIC awards twenty students with Resiliency Award Scholarships.

Value

The Scholarship award is equivalent to $250.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be currently studying full-time;
  • Have achieved the required competencies in the course from which they are being nominated in the semester immediately prior to the semester when the scholarship is being awarded;
  • Have been nominated by an FIC instructor for the award in the semester immediately prior to the semester when the scholarship is being awarded;
  • Not have any outstanding fees on their student account;
  • Not have previously received an Academic Distinction or Academic Merit scholarship nor had a scholarship or bursary from Navitas withdrawn.
  • Not be receiving another Navitas scholarship in the same semester of consideration for this award. If the student is short-listed for multiple scholarships, the student will be awarded the one of greatest value.

Conditions

  • The scholarship applies to academic studies completed for an undergraduate/postgraduate program with FIC. Students are liable to pay for the remainder of their semester course fees.
  • Successful recipients will not receive any money from Navitas member institution. The value of the scholarship will be recorded on the student’s tuition account during their semester of study for an undergraduate/postgraduate program with FIC.
  • Scholarships are not transferable to other students or Navitas member institutes in any circumstances.
  • Navitas member institutions reserves the right not to award all or some of the scholarships in a given year.

Selection Criteria

Selection will be based on:

  • Nominations received from FIC instructors, identifying students who have shown improvement in classroom citizenship/academic ability or have overcome adversity to be successful in their studies.
  • The Scholarship Selection Committee will award the scholarships based on the quality of nominations, as determined by personal circumstances and academic performance.
  • Additional factors such as educational disadvantage, member of specific equity group and/or significantly adverse personal circumstances may be taken into account where the scholarship selection committee must differentiate between equally qualified applicants
  • Outcome of scheduled interview (if required)

Notification of results

The scholarship selection committee will announce the recipients of the Resiliency Award Scholarship upon the completion of each semester and following the course registration period for the subsequent term. The recipients will be notified by email and the successful students posted on the college/campus website.

Application instructions

Students are not required to apply for the scholarship as it is awarded based on nominations submitted by FIC instructors.
